Murugesan who tendered his resignation letter this morning, said he had informed MIC president Datuk Seri G Palanivel of his intention to resign if he loses, even before the 13th General Election.

“I have reiterated my stand to the president last week. I have allowed a few days grace period in order for him to find a suitable successor.

“The party needs to rejuvenate and renew itself. I have given my best as party secretary-general to move the party forward, for it to be more relevant to the younger generation.

“However, I believe the time has come for me to step down and to allow others to continue with the process of rebuilding the party under the leadership of Datuk Seri G Palanivel,” said Murugesan in a statement today.

He added that after a short break, he will return to serve the party in his capacity as a central working committee member and the branch chairman for Section 17, Shah Alam.

Rajagopal was let off the hook after the Football Association of Malaysia’s (FAM) disciplinary committee found there is no case against him.

Rajagopal landed in hot water after FAM decided to charge him for an alleged comment about the lack of local strikers in the M-League after the national team’s 4-1 drubbing by Saudi Arabia in a friendly on March 17

Rajagopal was said to have blamed the situation on the presence of foreign professionals and the FAM allegedly construed that as criticising the national league.
