Rajhula is an Indian rock band from Kuala Lumpur,Malaysia.The band was formed in 2008 and focused on rock performances in Tamil language. Rajhula started as a live band playing for private and corporate events, shows, concerts, gigs before moving onto song production. Rajhula consists of Jibrail on Vocals, Jana on Drums and Harrie on Bass.
The name RAJHULA was given by Jibrail in reference to an old vessel named Rajula. Rajula was the second biggest ship after Sithambaram which ferried the Indian immigrants from India to Malaysia during the heydays of British colonization. From the band’s point of view,the name RAJHULA is chosen to show and represent the Indian identity of the band and as well as being the reflection of the Indian community which is the third largest ethnic community here in Malaysia.Historically it defines the roots and reminiscence of Indian migration to Malaysia.
Musically RAJHULA is creating an experimental flavor of genre by infusing Indian music elements such as sangeetham,carnatic, classical, folk and others into their style of playing live music. The band also blends these elements in a unique way with other genres such as rock, jazz,pop, funk, fusion, blues and country .Along the line,RAJHULA works with a number of other musicians to complement the style of music that the band plays.
RAJHULA released their fist single titled “Analum” late 2009 followed by the second single titled ‘Naan SollveThellam’ mid 2010.These songs were released as free downloads.
The band’s new single ‘Kann Theduthey’ is a new wave pop rock ballad complimented with excellent instrumental play, mixtures of balladic rock melodies with a tinge of raaga on vocals,and lyrics which are beautiful and poignant at the same time. “Kann Theduthey” is a collabration with Sheezay from Psycho Unit fame on lyrics and Lawrence on guitars.
RAJHULA is currently in the process of completing their debut album.The band has already recorded a number of songs and it is in the final phase of selecting the songs for the debut album. Moving onward the band is looking to stage a show to showcase all the songs in the debut album,which will be their Official launch.
Ultimately RAJHULA is here to provide all the Tamil music lovers out there the true experience of Live Music. Be ready for something fresh,interesting,exciting and most importantly something original.
