NJOI, which comprises a set-top box, Out-Door Unit (ODU) satellite dish, smartcard and remote control unit, is available with a one-time payment of RM288 at authorised NJOI retailers, and RM100 for installation.
NJOI provides access to quality education, information and entertainment on 18 TV and 19 radio channels with no monthly subscription.
During the launch, Astro chief operating officer Henry Tan thanked Malaysians for their support in helping Astro achieved over 50 per cent penetration of Malaysian TV homes.
He said Astro’s challenge was to learn from their customers to provide a holistic value proposition which fitted the their lifestyle of choice, preferences and budget.
“We understand our responsibility to the community. We currently have a low entry pack of RM37.95 for customers who can then choose to add on our genre packages and innovative services.
“With NJOI, we are taking a step further by making available to all in Malaysia the fundamental core content in lifelong learning, information and entertainment,” he added.
This delivery of quality Astro programmes for free is an important step to remain as the people’s preferred choice in home entertainment, he said.
NJOI is a prefect representation of Astro’s future-proofing model in the local and regional broadcasting industry employing a new content delivery model to reach the rural and low-income groups, he said.
He said NJOI was the only free satellite TV service in Malaysia and is set to redefine the free TV landscape, as viewers now are able to experience greater variety access channels dedicated to their particular interest.
Channels incorporated in NJOI from Astro include quality education channels as well as entertainment and information channels like Astro Prima, Astro Oasis and Astro Awani, and 19 radio stations.
