APPALAM Press Preview Stills

APPALAM – Papadom, awarded Best Film at the 22nd FFM is given a rebirth in this Tamil version and Tayangan Unggul Sdn. Bhd. has broken records as producing the first Malaysian Tamil Film after 24 years of Tamil films not being produced in the film format [35 mm].

The film by Afdlin Shauki follows a storyline similar to Papadom, but here it tells more about Malaysian Indian society, culture and traditions. The film’s story-line that is filled with issues of  love, determination and responsibility also brings forth the relationship of a father and daughter that is the crux of Appalam.

Appalam has absorbed the 1 Malaysia Concept with its multi-racial characters of Malay, Indian and Chinese where we can enjoy all their creative skills combined.

Appalam can give opportunities to other local film productions to come forward with films with multi-racial qualities in Malaysia.

Afdlin also is of the view that this body of work is particularly important as its topic is close to his heart, and also reaches out to all single fathers as the film is about a father-daughter relationship. He goes on to say, “Looking at my work field, I have always asked myself, what would I do if the person that I trust to care for my children [ my wife] is not in my life. This has inspired me to reflect on my relationship with my family and has made me realise the importance of my family in my life.”

The comfort-level between Gana and Raja Ilya has translated into a heart-warming chemistry that so relatable to everyday life. Afdlin makes the attempt to rock the emotions of the audience to laugh along, cry along and live the emotions as the characters live them with the additional dramatic moments compared to Papadom. The other actors are equally entertaining and lovable enough to live in the hearts of the audience.  For this film TUSB has various expertise in their field to ensure the film achieves the effect that it wants to transmit to the audience.
